One year blogiversary

For some reason, I thought that my one year blogiversary was today. I was wrong, it was actually April 3rd. Oh, well. I'll still celebrate it today, just this once.

Since I started blogging here at Blogspirit (I blogged for a few months over at MSN spaces) I've written 147 posts (including this one), had 585 comments and had over 20'000 visits. I am really happy that you find me interesting enough that you keep coming back, thank you to all of you. I hope to keep you entertained or at least show you pretty pictures for at least another year! : )

In honor of this belated blogiversary, I will make official the little contest I started 2 days ago. I need to find a name for my new wheel. Please help me by suggesting names for it. If you've already given me a name, feel free to participate again. The person who suggest the name I like the best will win something nice, I promise. The contest will be open until April 30 midnight.

By the way, I've been looking at sheep stencils online, wouldn't the wheel look cute with one of these?

I'll stick with Janie as my contest guess. I'm not really good at naming things unless I "meet" them.

I do like the first stencil of the sheep facing front the best. She's adorable!

Posted by: Lisa | Apr 25, 2007

I think "Aurora" is nice. (Sleeping Beauty's name - she also caught the spinning bug! And she wore pink!)

Posted by: alyson | Apr 25, 2007

Happy blogiversary! I think a new wheel is the best way to celebrate!

As for a name, I don't know why, but Franka came to mind.

Posted by: Rachel | Apr 25, 2007

Arachne! :) Congrats on the new wheel and happy blogiversary!

Posted by: Chris | Apr 25, 2007

Congrats on both the 1 year anniversary and your new wheel.

The only name I can think of is "Mary" from the CCR song, Proud Mary - "big wheel keep on turnin', Proud Mary keep on burnin'" - though most people probably know the Ike & Tina Turner version better.

- Not so secret pal, Toni

I woud call it Spinny McSpinnerson.

Posted by: Emma | Apr 25, 2007

I know you like Lord of the Rings so how about the name Arwen?

Posted by: Lori | Apr 25, 2007

She looks like an Emily to me...

Posted by: JessaLu | Apr 25, 2007

congrats on your one year! How about Portia?

Posted by: christine | Apr 25, 2007

How bout a an Irish name: Aran....sounds like a fitting name. :) I love the stencil of the sheep jumping over the fence.....those are soooooo cute.

Posted by: Trish | Apr 25, 2007

I love naming things like computers, cars, appliances - I'm so glad that I'm not the only one. I'm sure that you are looking for just one name, but I wanted to throw out a couple...

Elisabeth (click link to understand why)

Rose (quartz the birth stone) Manly because it is pink and pink roses/stones are beautiful

Lily (after the Stargazer) It again is pink and one of the prettest flowers I think.

Happy blogiversary, Val! I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to meet you, which would not have happened, of course, without our respective blogs. Isn't that cool?!

The first thing that came to my mind was "Miss Daisy" (as in driving Miss Daisy, I guess? ...ha).

Happy Blogiversary!

How about...Ms. Spinster for a name for your wheel?

Posted by: Shelley | Apr 25, 2007

...I just realized I forgot - Happy Blogiversary!!

Posted by: JessaLu | Apr 25, 2007

Happy Blogiversary!

Thérèse...as in Madame Thérèse Defarge from A Tale of Two Cities, who secretly knit the names of the intended victims of the French Revolution into her work.

or

Rumpelstiltskin

Leandra. It just comes to mind, doesn't it?

Posted by: Theresa | Apr 26, 2007

Morgaine, from the Mists of Avalon. :)

Posted by: Vicki | Apr 26, 2007

Dunno why, but Matilda sprung to mind when I first saw the picture... Mattie, maybe?

Posted by: Christene | Apr 26, 2007

Posted by: ann-marie | Apr 26, 2007

Happy Blogiversary! The new wheel is beautiful. What about Daphne?

Posted by: Jennifer | Apr 26, 2007

Happy Bloggingday! I think a nice solid name that makes you think of a hard working frau, like Helga or Zelda.

Posted by: olga | Apr 26, 2007

I like Cassandra!
Happy blogiversary!

Chaos and Mayhem linked over here, and I do like to share my opinions!

Posted by: Guinifer | Apr 26, 2007

I love the stencils you have picked out! I like the sheep jumping over the fence the best!!!

I like Julianna. I think about the chorus to Julianna Hatfield's song Spin the bottle. It goes "Spin it round again, spin it round again!" LOL

Happy Blogiversary!! I just hit 100 posts yesterday!!

Posted by: lesley | Apr 26, 2007

Happy Blogiversary!

How about Clover or Shamrock? Your wheel just reminds me of that design.

Posted by: Becky | Apr 26, 2007

Happy blogiversary! Congrats on your new spinning wheel. The stencils are very cute, especially the sheep family. As for a name for your new wheel...how about Penelope? You could call her Penny as a nickname. (I also like Lori's suggestion to name it Arwen).

Posted by: Annette | Apr 26, 2007

Happy Blogiversary!

As for the name for your Fricke---how about Frida, as in Frida Fricke. She can be the Frida Kalo of the spinning world, creating works of wooly art! :)

Posted by: deb | Apr 26, 2007

Hi Valerie...thanks for dropping by my blog...I'm so *excited* about finishing a pair of socks I feel like a big kid...LOL

Hmmmmmm, your wheel is gorgeous! I see "Louie"...don't know why but I do...

Happy Blogiversary too...time passes quickly eh?

Posted by: Roxanne | Apr 26, 2007

I'm going to suggest "Sister" as the name of you wheel.

I grew up with an older brother and always wanted a sister. I always felt a sister was someone you could go to when you needed to talk or laugh or just be yourself and that's how I feel when I'm playing with fiber (sort of, not in a crazy way).
The fiber is always there for us without judgement (I hear real sisters aren't always like that but wouldn't it be nice if they were?) . It's calming and frustrating at times like a real sister.
Also, I've gained a lot of sisters since I've joined this knitting community.

Happy 1 year Anniversary!

hmmm...a name? How about LambChop? LOL!

Posted by: Oiyi | Apr 26, 2007

How about Rumpelstiltskin, for spinning straw into gold?

Or Aurora, which is one of Sleeping Beauty's "real" names.

Happy blogiversary!

Posted by: Gladys | Apr 26, 2007

Happy blogiversary! I have wheel envy. If it were I would name it Shelby or Gizmo. As it belongs to you--Salem (because on frustratiing spinning days, it will be a witch) or Willow as in Wollapping Willow. Can't wait to see your first sock yarn.....

Posted by: Lisa G | Apr 26, 2007

How about naming it "St. Elizabeth"? and then you could call it "E" for short.

Happy Blogiversary!

What about Charlotte? I realy like that name. :)

Posted by: Julie | Apr 26, 2007

Happy Blogiversary!

I've always been partial to the name "Trixie" after all the Trixie Belden books I read when I was little.

Posted by: Jodi | Apr 26, 2007

Ive always been partial to penelope, if I had a wheel, so when shes ad it can be oh come on Penelope and when she is good, oh good girl penny good girl.

Posted by: Sarah | Apr 26, 2007

Happy Blogiversary! Found you from Chris... Rapunzel variations instantly came to mind... How about RapZ? I lived with a sweet dog named Rhapsie. So RapZ could be short for Rapunzel, or could refer to the end of rap music or the cool z of rap music, or about rhapsodizing about how much you love to spin, or about making z twist yarns, or or or!

Posted by: lisa | Apr 26, 2007

I'm dull. Vicky.

Happy blogiversary! Wheelz R fun.

Posted by: Anne | Apr 26, 2007

I hadn't thought of naming my spinning wheel - which is weird, since I name everything else inanimate in my life.

Spinderella is probably a little too trite. How about Willa (like Willa Cather) - Willa the wheel?

Posted by: michaele | Apr 26, 2007

Congratulations on your blogiversary and the new wheel! The decal would look perfect on the wheel.

My name suggestion is...PROUD MARY...as in...

"Big wheel keep on turnin,
Proud mary keep on burnin,
Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river."

:)

Posted by: Pooch | Apr 27, 2007

Happy blogiversary and congrats on your first wheel! Now for the name...hmmmm, how about Yarn Spawn? Or, Spinerella...ummm, I'm so not good at this, am I? LOL Okay, how about Linnea? It says it's a Swedish girl's name and also the name of a small pink mountain flower that was named after the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus.

Posted by: Michelle | Apr 27, 2007

Happy Blogiversary. I've come over from Chris' blog Stumbling Over Chaos. What about Molly? Molly Ringwald acted in the movie 'Pretty in Pink', Or her character's name 'Andie'.

Can a wheel be a boy? If so, Samson. I don't know why. It's a song by Regina Spektor. Great song.

Girl name: Isadora. You can call her Izzie.

:D

Happy Blogiversary!

I love my Fricke! It's a real workhorse, one of the older versions with a solid wheel. When the "fancy" Reeves wheel is being persnickety, the Fricke is always ready to take up the slack.

My wheel is Zirha, which is Hopi for "she who spins" according to the baby name site. I'm sure she wouldn't mind a sister-in-name.

I'm not sure about what's causing the back pain, but do try chairs at different heights. Also, changing the distance you sit from the wheel could help; if you're bending over as you treadle, it could strain your lower back. Happy blogiversary, and happy spinning!

Okay, this is ridiculous, but the first thing that popped into my head was Cyclopticon. Don't ask me, I don't know either.

But if you want, you know, an actual name, I love Isobel.

Happy Blogiversary!

Posted by: Stella | Apr 27, 2007

If you are going to use the sheep stencils on it, I think Ewe-La is perfect

Posted by: Kenyetta | Apr 27, 2007

I've been having a hard time deciding on what to name my wheel too! I think "beyonce" is going to stick- you can use it if you want!

Posted by: Faith | Apr 27, 2007

I can't for the life of me tell you why, but the first name that popped into my head after Penelope [ which is already taken ] was
Eudora
although I'd probably spell it EWEdora

Posted by: catsmum | Apr 27, 2007

Hehehe, I'd name it Sweetpea, just like everything else I own: iPod, laptop, PDA, ... If I had a pet it would be a Sweetpea too :)

I really like the stencil of that front-facing sheep... or that little other critter (I don't know the name in English...).

Cheers Eva - who wandered over from Chris' blog.

Posted by: Eva | Apr 28, 2007

Congrats on your blogiversary AND your spinning wheel!! How about Elsebeth...don't know why....name just seems to work for me.

Posted by: Crazy For Yarn In Alabama | Apr 28, 2007

Obviously, it has to be Spanky. Obviously.

:)

Posted by: Megan | Apr 29, 2007

Hmm. How about Bessie?

Posted by: Tiphanie | Apr 29, 2007

how about Clotho (or Clothilde, if you don't like Greek) ?

Posted by: anne | Apr 30, 2007

Did you ever know a woman who enraged someone so much he set fire to the bar where you keep your wheel? Because in that case you could name it after her, much like B.B.King named his guitar Lucille in the same way.

Or you could name it, Idunno, Fran? Because then you can call it Fricke Fran, which sort of sounds like Spick 'n Span.
