Tale of the broken needles
First I want to thank all of you who have shared their locked out story with me! It's nice to know that it doesn't just happens to me! : )
*************
This weekend I went up to Montreal. (More on this trip in another post) My main project was my Dream swatch scarf. Yesterday on the way back I must have knitted 20 inches and was getting really bored with it. But as all my other projects are at a stage where they don't make traveling projects I stuck with it. I knit and knit with my vintage-ish single pointed Boye plastic needles. Before we got home I put the project back in the Ziploc bag and into my purse. After we got home we left again to go to my friends' house to watch the Super Bowl. When we got there I promptly got my knitting back out of my bag and what did I see? Much to my dismay both needles had broken in half...
This is a picture taken this morning
Of course I wasn't very pleased about my broken needles, but since the main part was still long enough for the scarf I figured I might as well knit some more and that I would just add point protectors on the broken end and call it a day. Well, this morning I did try. And as I was trying to wedge the point protector on the end of the needle, the needle broke in half... So instead of 4 pieces of needles I was now with 5, and it was time to change needles. The previously used and now broken Boye needles were size US 9, (5.25mm). After searching through all my size 9 needles, dpns, KP Options, other straights and other circulars I came to the conclusion that there were no other 5.25mm to be found. All other size 9 needles are 5.5mm.
There is nothing else to be done about it. 29 inches of the scarf will be knit on 5.25mm and the rest will be knit on 5.5mm. In theory it should go faster now! : )

On other news, A week or so ago I swapped some stash yarn for 10 skeins of Patons SWS, and it just got here!
I will be knitting Lady Eleanor with this yarn. At first I was going to do it with Silk Garden, but I had seen Lady E knit with that yarn in that particular color and really liked it too. So I think that it will be lovely and will make a really nice stole.
