Special Swap - Christmas theme

Testing Testing - Bloglines are you getting this?

***************

Last Friday I received my Special Swap package from Beth of Felt Like Knitting. She was hoping I would get it before Christmas and she definitely came through!

The box had these cute little snowman and snowflakes all over it and when I opened the box this is what I saw:

All prettily wrapped up!

After a few minutes of unwrapping, this is what I found:

Special Swap package - Christmas Theme

First there were chocolates, hot chocolate mixes, a Lindt chocolate snowman and Christmas tea. Then I found snowflake shaped cookie cutter and a beautiful pink, red and silver ornament. Then I found a beautiful pair of Fetchings knit in Rio de la Plata yarn in Carnation Pink.

Beautiful Fetchings for me!

Last but not least were these two books, one of which I'd be dying to get since September. I think you can guess which one it is... I can't wait to try out these new sock architectures!

2 awesome books

Thank you Beth for such a wonderful swap! I do hope you get your package before New Year's!

Reading

I just finished reading this book this morning. It was a very quick read, I started to read 2 nights ago and read and read some more. I enjoyed this book quite a bit, although it reminded me a lot of another book I read a couple months ago, The Friday Night Knitting Club.

Detail

I've been knitting away on my secret knitting. If you like what you see, sign ups for our June Sock Club are still open! : )

In the last 24 hours I signed up for 2 more sock related knitalongs: Sockamania and Sockapalooza 4.

Sockamania is organized by Anni of Confessions of a Yarn Addict. Starting in May, participants will get a sock pattern by Anni which we will knit. Hopefully the patterns will match in some way Socktopia themes! : )

The sign ups for Sockapalooza 4 opened sometimes between late last night and this morning. I've been debating the last few days whether or not to sign up for it. My main concern is knitting socks for someone's else's feet. I can't try them on as I go, what if they don't fit? But I decided that I would try my best and that it shouldn't be too hard to do! So I signed up. Also, send off are in August, so I have plenty of time to knit a pair of socks that will fit!

Ugliest thing I've ever knit

Ugliest yarn I've ever had

My Secret Pal 10 hostess has asked our group to post a picture of either the ugliest thing we've ever knit or the ugliest yarn we have. And since I had one of each I decided to post both.

On top is my second scarf ever. I knit it for my husband out of some Lion's Brand chunky acrylic yarn. Not only was the scarf too short but it was too stiff and thick, we called it the "Neck Brace". I have to admit that I tossed it a few months back. No need to keep something so horrible around. I can't say that the second scarf I knit for my husband was a better success... We call that one "The Rope".

On the bottom is some yarn I received at Christmas... As a joke, thankfully. But I still have to keep it. I keep threatening the giver that I will knit him a hat out of it. But I can't even get myself to do that! lol!

*********

Hopefully within the next day or two I will be able to resume my usual knitting and show you either the beginnings of a sleeve or the beginnings of another Child's First sock.

Special Swap package

I received today my Hearts and Roses Special Swap package. Special Swap is organized by Lynne from "I was knit together in my mother's womb". Lynne organized last year's Project Colorswap of which I was part of. So when she asked if I was interested in this new swap I said: "yes!"
Special Swap will run all year switching partners every other month. That way you can make an extra nice package for that person. My partner for this round was Harriett, from "One of each". I received her lovely package today. This is what she got me:

Special Swap package - Jan/Feb

Closer looks at the goodies on the left:

Special Swap - Other goodies

A project bag, a handknit dishcloth, 2 sticky heart-shaped notepads, 2 spools of cute ribbon, a bag of candy, pink tissue packet with a tissue holder and other cute and pink things.

Goodies on the right:

Special Swap - Yarn

6 skeins of Bernat Chloe, a cotton yarn in a lovely mauvey color. I can see a nice summer tank knit from it. 2 skeins of Patons Look at me! Baby Sport, to make a cute baby sweater perhaps?

Thank you Harriett for such a lovely package and thank you Lynne for organizing a nice swap like this.

Yarn Aboard II

Last week I noticed that sign ups where up for Yarn Aboard II organised by Amanda over at Clothesknit.
Quoted from Amanda's blog: "The way Yarn Aboard works is that the box arrives, you take stuff out and put stuff in and then send it on to the next recipient. Rather than a Secret Pal swap that entails the giving of gifts over a period of several months which can get expensive, I propose a one time secret swap thingamajigger." The theme for this swap is socks so that ought to be fun! Spinning was also a possibility, I could even have done both.
Mr Clothesknit made this wonderful button for us:

You can see a bigger version over at Clothesknit.
I am really looking forward to this one time swap, thank you Amanda for organizing a second round!
